City of Pacific is accepting proposals from qualified professional law firms or individuals to provide City Attorney General Legal Services on a contractual basis.

 One original and ten (10) copies of sealed proposals are to be submitted to the City Clerk by 4:30 p.m., PST, Friday, February 8, 2013, at the address stated in the previous paragraph. All proposals must be sealed and marked “City Attorney-Legal Services Proposal.”

 The City reserves the right to reject any and all proposals, to waive informalities and irregularities in the proposal submitting process, to negotiate further with all proposers within the competitive range, and to accept a proposal which is considered to be in the best interest of the City.

Act as general legal counsel to the City elected officials and City Staff. Legal counsel will provide representation, advice, and interpretation of municipal corporation law as it applies to the City, except for legal services provided by Bond Counsel, legal services provided by the City Prosecutor, and those legal services needed on matters prohibited as a matter of law, or under the Washington State Supreme Court Code of Professional Responsibility. Such information will involve federal and state laws as well as local statutes and ordinances.  (estimated average of 50 hours per month)

This part-time, staff attorney position is responsible for supporting Davis Wright Tremaine’s Commercial Litigation practice.  Primary duties include drafting pleadings, correspondence, motions to dismiss, etc., associated with mortgage-related litigation.  Additionally, the attorney will be responsible for arguing motions in state and federal court; interacting with opposing counsel and clients on a regular basis; researching relevant authorities, and tracking case deadlines.   Position qualifications:  a JD degree and membership in the Washington State bar;  3+ years of experience in a commercial litigation practice; strong legal writing skills — compelling brief writing is essential; ability to meet deadlines, particularly for reply briefs with 2-3 day turnaround times; familiarity with Washington Deed of Trust Act, Uniform Commerical Code, Consumer Protection Act, and Truth in Lending Act a plus, though not required. The ability to work independently is required.  Please upload a resume, cover letter, law transcript, and writing sample here: http://www.dwt.com/Staff-Attorney-Commercial-Litigation-Staff/

COURT COMMISSIONER

The Court of Appeals, Division I is recruiting for the position of Court Commissioner. Appellate court commissioners are judicial officers appointed by the judges of their respective courts to act as judges in (1) deciding appeals, (2) deciding procedural matters, and (3) performing other duties as provided in the Rules of Appellate Procedure (RAP), Court of Appeals Administrative Rules (CAR), and as assigned by their courts. 

At Division I, the commissioner’s primary responsibilities are hearing and deciding motions for discretionary review, procedural motions, petitions for attorney fees and costs, matters requiring emergency decisions, and appeals from orders of dependency and terminating parental rights. As judicial officers, appellate court commissioners are subject to the Code of Judicial Conduct and are responsible to the Chief Judge of the division in which they serve.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Pursuant to Court of Appeals Administrative Rule 16, Commissioners must be a member in good standing of the Washington State Bar Association and have five years experience in the practice of law or in a judicially related field.
